Early Settlers of Camargo: Nicolas de los Santos Coy and Anna Maria Guerra

Nicolas de los Santos Coy and Anna Maria Guerra

An early settling family of Camargo from the 1750s is that of Nicolas de los Santos Coy and Anna Maria Guerra. Here you will find their family group showing their children and who they married.

They are listed in the 1757 Census of Camargo as follows: "Don Nicolas de los Santos Coy, casado con Dona Ana Maria Geurra, tiene veintenueve sirvientes de ambos sexos, todas armas, ochenta caballos, veintiun burros y seis burras". From this we can conlude that they were wealthy compared to the standards of the day. Also, it is a pitty that the name of the servants are not mentioned. I am sure that many of us are probably descendants of theirs.

The parents of Nicolas are Joseph de los Santos Coy and Maria Mendez Tovar Hidalgo. The parents of Anna Maria are Jose Antonio Guerra and Maria Antonia de la Garza Trevino.

To date, I have only been able to find one daughter for them. Theya re the inlaws of Blas Maria de la Garza Falcon, who was captain of Camargo and is considered in Texas as the colonizer of South Texas.

For more ancestors of theirs please visit our Las Villas del Norte Genealogy Database.

Here is their family group:
