An early family of Mier is that of Jose Nicolas Antonio Gonzalez and Maria Ana Josefa Garcia. They are listed in the 1757 census of Laredo as follows: "Don Nicolas Gonzalez, casado con Doña Ana Garcia, nueve hijos, armas, seis cballos y un burro".

Jose Nicolas Antonio Gonzalez was the son of Diego Gonzalez and Anna Maria de Treviño. His wife Maria Ana Josefa Garcia was the daughter of Joaquin Garcia and Maria Isabel Juana Guajardo.
