Early Settlers of Matamoros: Joseph Antonio de la Garza and Maria Salome de Sepulveda
The family of Joseph and Maria Salome are considered one of the fouding families of preset day Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Their property was meassured and assigned on the 14th of December 1784. The name of their ranch was not stated. Matamoros went by name of San Juan de los Esteros and Congregación del Refugio before taking its present name in 1828.
Joseph Antonio is the son of Leonicio de la Garza and Francisca Andrea Javiera de Arriola de la Barrera. On the 7th of February 1753 he married Maria Salome de Sepulveda at Sagrario Metropolitano, Monterrey, Nuevo Reino de Leon, Mexico. She was the daughter of Francisco de Sepulveda and Maria Josepha Garcia.
To date, I have only been able to find nine children for them.
