Early Settlers of Burgos: Miguel Zamora and Maria Josepha Caballero

Miguel Zamora and Maria Josepha Caballero are among the 1750 founding families of Burgos, Tamaulipas. They lived in El Valle del Guajuco, nowadays Santiago Nuevo Leon, in the early 1700's.

They probably married there in the early to mid 1720s since in 1726 their first son Joseph Zamora was born. By 1750 they had five children.

In the 1750 census of Burgos, Miguel is listed as having a shotgun, knife, and buckler. A buckler is a small shield used for hand-to-hand combat.

The family is also listed in the 1753 and 1757 censuses of Burgos. Miguel died in Burgos on the 8th of March 1770.

To date, I have yet to discover who the parents of Miguela and Maria Josepha are.

Here are the names of their children and whom they married. For more descendants of theirs please visit our Genealogy Database for South Texas and Northeastern Mexico.
