If the signature in the marriage certificate is by a priest then look for it in the church records. Also, even if it is not look for them in the local catholic church of the town they lived in.

When you say hidalgo county records, are those the land records or are you talking about FamilySearch and ancestry? I ask because Hidalgo County has digitized its land records, deeds, and wills.
