Seeking information on my father-in-law’s parents
Posted by Lazaro Ramirez on January 9, 2022 at 2:30 pmI am seeking information on Jose Maria Martinez who married Manuel Nava in Hidalgo County in 1911 and left McAllen, perhaps to Mexico. He may have joined the revolution.

I looked for them in my database but nothing came up.

Where else would you suggest I look, especially on Jose Maria Martinez? Hidalgo county records do not contain names for Jose Maria Martinez’ parents in the marriage certificate nor the names of Manuela Nava’s parents. The marriage certificate is the only document I have. I cannot connect him to any Martinez family members since I cannot locate anyone related to him.

If the signature in the marriage certificate is by a priest then look for it in the church records. Also, even if it is not look for them in the local catholic church of the town they lived in.
When you say hidalgo county records, are those the land records or are you talking about FamilySearch and ancestry? I ask because Hidalgo County has digitized its land records, deeds, and wills.

They married in Hidalgo County and they only have the information that appears in the marriage license. The county vital statistics does not include information on their parents. Their son (my father-in-law named Carlos Martinez) was baptized in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission in 1912 and they only have the names of the parents (Jose Maria Martinez and Manuela Nava) and a witness. There is no information about the grandparents at that church.
