Cesario Montemayor is my brick wall. Grandfather x a few generations back. He married Dorotea Garza (Born 1831) in 1847, her family traces far back, but nothing further on Cesario. They lived in Mendez (Las Lajas at the time) outside Burgos, Tamaulipas. His parents are listed as Antonio Montemayor or Jose MA Montemayor in additional sources. His mother is listed as either Juana Charles or Juana Chavez, but a few are tough to tell.

My DNA connects back to Montemayors in Marin and & General Zuazua, but I can’t connect anything beyond Cesario.

The above is from the book by Martin Herrera. I currently don’t have anything on Burgos but by next year I will. I am going to enter every record that I can find into my database.

Thanks Moises, this is the farthest back I can find. I have a number of Sesario (Cesario) and Dorotea’s children and Sesario’s parents are listed as Jose Antonio and Jose MA montemayor and his mother is listed as both Juana Charles and Juanita Chavez in two different ones. But they had 11 children together and most don’t mention the grandparents.

So my challenge has been finding Cesario’s parents and confirming their names and birthplace. I know they lived in La Laja (las Lajas) which I believe became Mendez Tamaulipas. So I’ve checked a lot of documents from Burgos, China, Linares, and Reynosa. Can’t find any additional Montemayor-Charles or Montemayor-Chaves children or marriages or anything.

Looking forward to what you find on Burgos! I read through the 1757 General Visit of Burgos report you published, but no luck finding my relatives mentioned.

Additionally, I have some Montemayor DNA matches on FTDNA that trace back to Marin and General Zuazua, but I find the actual connection. Sesario’s family moved from Burgos/Mendez to Matamoros then La Paloma Tx (where my mom grew up). We assume Sesario or his dad was from Nuevo Leon, but have yet to confirm.

            FTDNA kits:

            – 341245 – My mom’s family finder and mtDNA (T2e1a1a)

            – 343531 – My uncle’s Montemayor YDNA (R-M269)

What information is missing from your grandfather? I did a quick search on him and found quite a bit of information on him. His first name is also showing that is spelled with an “S” in some of his records.

Hey Vanessa, The document Moises shared is the farthest back I can find.

So I’ve checked a lot of documents from Burgos, China, Linares, and Reynosa. Can’t find any additional Montemayor-Charles or Montemayor-Chaves children or marriages or anything.

I have Montemayor DNA matches on FTDNA that show General Zuazua and Marin, but can’t make the connection myself.
