Early Settlers of Reynosa: Joseph Phelis Barrera and Maria Magdalena de Tijerina

An early settling family of Reynosa is that of Joseph Phelis Barrera and Maria Magdalena de Tijerina. Here you will find their children and who they married.

They are listed in the 1750, 1753, and 1757 censuses of Reynosa.

Joseph and Magdalena were form Monterrey. They married in that city on January 7, 1744.

The parents of Joseph Phelis Barrera are Miguel Barrera and Francisca Ruiz. The parents of Maria Magdalena de Tijerina are Pedro de Tijerina and Nicolasa Treviño.

It is interesting to note that both of them are Mestizos. A mestizo is half white and half Indian.

Francisco and Maria lived in the Reynosa area between the 1750s and early 1800s.

So far I have only come across five children for them.

Here are the names of their children and whom they married. For more descendants of theirs please visit our Genealogy Database for South Texas and Northeastern Mexico.
