Interestingly, I am Rodriguez via both of my grandparents on my mom’s side. My mom’s father has Rodriguez roots in Villagran, Tamaulipas. My 3rd great grandfather is Jose Luis Rodriguez born around 1784 who was married in Villagran. My mom’s mother has Rodriguez roots in Casas, Tamaulipas. My 4th great grandfather is Fernando Rodriguez, he had my 3rd great grandfather baptized in Casas, Tamaulipas. Since most roads lead back to Nuevo Leon, it’s probably true in my case as well but I haven’t been able to find records beyond the men listed previously.

All of the Vercruzanos and Tabasquenos are on my dad’s side, a whole different set of surnames. Last names that aren’t found among the settlers of Northeast Mexico.
