How is it that the DNA of the ancient indigenous Guanches of the Canary Islands is present in many Hispanics of northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States?
In this presentation Dr. Beatrice de Leon Edwards explains the connection that many of us have to the Canary Islanders, in particular through Francisco Baez de Benavides and Bernabe de las Casas, who both have many descendants in northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States.

The Discovery of The Indigenous Guanches - In this section we learned about the first encounters of the Guanches with Europeans based on written accounts of explorers.
The Mystery of their Origins - In this section attendees learned about the possible origins of the Guanches that dates back thousands of years.
European Conquest of the Canary Islands - In this section we learned about the struggle that lasted for almost one hundred years.
Isleño/Canary Island Colonists - In this section we learned about the various places that the Islanders ended up in the Americas and Dr. Edwards provided us with a list of names of confirmed Islanders.
Bernabe de las Casas - Dr. Edwards provided us with her genealogy link to Bernabe de las Casas and her research on him. She also explains how she found out that Bernabe had roots to the Canary Islands.
Francisco Baez de Benavides - In this section Dr. Edwards also provided us with her genealogy link to Farncisco Baez de Banavides who is confirmed to have been born in Tenerife.
DNA Studies on the Guanches - Finally, Dr. Edwards provided us with the latest DNA research on the Guanches and sheds some light as to the origins of the Guanches.
Overall I enjoyed attending this presentation and learning form the bast knowledge that Dr Edwards has to offer.
